I bought this because my car for car electronic cyber monday 2013

I received the radio yesterday afternoon, while I was busy with another project. I still had time to look at it, and was able to see that I could mount it using the hardware from the original radio. It has a wiring harness and directions for hookup. I wrote down the connections I would make from the new harness, to the wires of the old. The antenna connection was made using the existing fitting. I used a radio shack automatic wire stripper to strip the wires from the old harness, one at a time as needed. (about $25 dollars, but I had it on hand). I used professional automotive style crimpers from Home Depot to put on barrel connectors to the new wires, and then hooked them up one at a time to the old wires. I highly recommend using the strippers and good crimpers to get a professional job. They will come in handy more than you think. I plugged in the harness and checked for normal operation after putting on the power wires and the front speakers. It was fine, so I finished all the speakers wires. You have to take your time on them and get them right. The radio is 7 inches by 2 inches, the same as the jeep radio was. I used the manual for the set up, and it plays loud and clear. I all ready have some favorite FM and AM stations entered in. I found this unit to be just what I wanted at a great price. The install was fairly simple -- the challenge came from taking the old unit out, but I found the solution by looking online. I had to take my whole console apart, but this was as simple as following instructions. The new unit was fairly easy to install, the only hiccup came in matching the wires in the back, which I did by matching the colors, twisting, and wrapping in electric tape. The whole install took about 1.5 hours start to finish, but I am also fairly comfortable with electronics. The key was to know where to look for the instructions, follow them, and be gentle and patient. It may be helpful to research what tutorials are available online to help with the install prior to purchase. I found there was a lot out there. I bought this because my car, 2002 Suburu Outback, had an aftermarket CD player in it. This old system did not allow me to use my Iphone to listen to music because it did not have an AUX IN jack. I have tried FM transmitters and have always been disappointed, plus my most recent one became obsolete once Apple put the new lightning plug in. This unit was close in price to what I would have paid for a new FM transmitter, but the audio quality and ease of use is far superior.
